But behind all this creativity in this art, there is much discipline and skill in the craft that requires commitment, practice, and an understanding of several seminal principles.

Actually, becoming a good writer has very little to do with talent; it has to do with honing the skills, finding one’s voice, and embracing the process of writing as a process of continuous change.

1. Read Widely and Often

Reading is one of the best ways to augment your writing skills. The more you expose yourself to different genres, styles, and voices, the more you will understand about language and storytelling. This will make a huge difference in how you approach character development, pacing, dialogue, and structure-all through the insight you gain from observing what works and what doesn’t in the work of established authors.

2. Create a Schedule and Write Regularly

With discipline, writing will get easier with practice. You’ll fall into a rhythm sooner or later if you’re writing on a schedule. Every day, take the time to journal, blog, or work on short stories. Again, the key here is…
