Dr. Eben Alexander, a celebrated neurosurgeon, and lecturer at Harvard Medical School renounced belief in any existence post-death by quoting as an example his whole life. Nevertheless, at present, he is teaching “unchanged divine energy in each one of us” he is associated with. However, most part of his life he was claiming that there is nothing after death, yet he is now speaking about the existence of a divine spark in everyone and that is what salvation is all about. Now and then Alexander tells stories about the composition of the world’s heaven and earth but finally, he says, the words: “there is

A coma suffered in 2008 convinced him that there is life after death. Dr. Alexander recounts that, while in the vegetative state, he had “a vision of Heaven.”

Is there something beyond? Is there life after death?

Man has always sought to find out if there is someone beyond himself. Regardless of the reason for this search, the core of religion, as the theologian and philosopher Friedrich Schleiermacher states, is the feeling of absolute dependence. Man seeks God. Every human being desires to find something beyond the point of no return.

Each era created its sky according to specific cultural reference points. Although the Christian religion talks about a place called Paradise, Heaven, Heaven, etc., people today increasingly need certainties regarding the existence or non-existence of such a place and want the most objective evidence possible. On the one hand, in a society where life is deeply marked by science, it is very difficult to plead for the existence of heaven, since this cannot be verified by the tools of science. On the other hand, there are indeedpeople who have changed their theological beliefs following ecstatic experiences.

But how objective are such experiences? The reality of religious experience is not and cannot be axiomatic. The mere fact that people believe in the transcendent does not guarantee its reality. Illusion is a present aspect of life and religion is not immune to it. The data of religious experience must be analyzed critically.
